In use, the Rugged Camera Sling is a bag with few surprises. ![]() On the main strap, it serves little purpose, while on the bottom straps it really facilitates and speeds up usage. The use of magnets on several straps is sometimes gimmicky, and sometimes extremely useful. Angles are not sharp, so zippers do not catch in the corners but move fluidly. This will end up being a matter of preference. After a while, the wings feel more natural and they do help distribute the weight. In all cases it takes a short while to get used to it, since it is an unusual way to have a bag hugging the body. Wider bodies will not appreciate it as much as thinner figures, because the distance between the attachment points is narrower than the bag itself. Their effectiveness will depend strongly on the body type. The wings on the back are a partial success. Having maybe a second attachment point, with another magnet, could have been a nice touch, preventing the strap from hanging down. The stabilizing secondary strap is useful, and quick to attach thanks to the magnets. The strap, with its wide padded surface, is comfortable even with the bag loaded. Having the front pocket expand outwards could have been a good idea, but goes against the design drivers for this bag. Those two pockets supplement the main volume, but won't accept large items. Here, the dividers use the same fabric as the sides, and the bag will also accept third-party dividers if more sub-sections are needed.Īpart from the main camera compartment, the bag offers a slim pocket on the inside of the top flap, and another one at the front. It is good that the dividers can attach to each other: too often, dividers use a fabric which does not mate with Velcro, limiting the possible configurations. Internal organisation is straightforward. ![]() With available volumes of 6 and 10 liters, the Rugged Sling fits right along other sling bags larger bags really benefit from two straps and a backpack style. It makes it easier to reach inside, and decreases the risk of spillage. We like that the flap opens away from the user. Offering a fast way to adjust the strap length is always beneficial in that regard the Rugged Sling is adequate, but not groundbreaking. Having the bag hugging the wearer's body makes it rest quite high on the chest when swiveled. We could wish that lengthening the strap was a bit more fluid, but it is not a major hindrance. Adjustment to the strap length is pretty straightforward, with a buckle type that most users will be familiar with. In this regard, the Rugged Sling performs as expected. ![]() The usefulness of a sling is the ease of access: being able to carry the equipment in the bag, but quickly swing it towards the front for access. The result is a sling bag which ticks most of the boxes. Instead, they used their own ideas, included a few successful elements from other products in the market, and avoided several of the pitfalls that others might have encountered. There are many players in the camera bag industry who have released creative products in recent years, and Moment did not try to work against the flow. This bag is not rugged in the sense that it is designed for a trip in the back-country (even though nothing prevents it being used there), but rather that it will protect the gear inside even in inclement conditions.Ī few years ago, the Rugged Sling would have been counted as particularly innovative. The sling's appearance does not prevent it from using weather-resistant fabrics, sealed zippers, and durable nylon straps. The bag includes the label "rugged" in its name, which might be surprising for a bag with a decidedly urban, tech-oriented look. The Rugged Camera Sling from Moment has been designed by creating a long list of possible features, and removing everything that is not essential, in order to deliver a focused and streamlined product.
